Simple Transcript Capture is a Chrome extension that transcribes speech from any browser tab and saves it as a text file. No accounts, no subscriptions, no cloud uploads — just click transcribe and you’re done.
Every transcription tool wants you to create an account and pay a monthly subscription. Otter.ai, Fireflies, Tactiq — they all charge $8 to $40 per month. Simple Transcript Capture is a one-time purchase with no account required. Your transcripts stay on your computer.
The extension uses the Chrome Tab Capture API to grab the audio stream from your active tab, then processes it through the Web Speech API for real-time speech-to-text conversion. When you stop, the transcript downloads to your computer as a TXT file.
The extension is free to use with plain text export and transcriptions up to 30 minutes. An optional Pro upgrade ($9.99 one-time) unlocks SRT subtitle export with timestamps and unlimited transcription time.

The extension collects zero personal data. No analytics inside the extension, no tracking, no accounts. The only network request the extension makes during transcription is to Chrome’s built-in speech recognition service.
